Policy

  • Image & Text publishes research articles, book reviews, exhibition reviews, and conference reports.
  • Authors must fill in and submit the Author’s Form regarding the originality of their submissions.
  • Authors are responsible for the professional technical and language editing of their submissions. The Editorial Board reserves the right to edit or shorten submissions.
  • Authors may wish to discuss the scope or applicability of their articles prior to submission and are encouraged to contact the Editor in this regard.
  • All manuscripts received are first read by members of the Editorial Board, who may recommend changes before submitting the manuscript for peer review, or may reject manuscripts outright that are deemed inappropriate for the journal or not of a sufficient standard.
  • The papers which fit the scope of the journal are analysed for plagiarism before being sent for peer review.
  • Manuscripts are sent for refereeing to at least two or three subject specialists in a double blind refereeing process. Thus, both authors’ and reviewers’ identities are concealed. The reviewers are chosen from other tertiary institutions or fields of expertise as appropriate. Reviewers are given 6 weeks to submit a report. The referees in their reports can recommend one of the following categories:
      • (i) Article is acceptable in its present form;
      • (ii) Article should be revised with minor changes as indicated in the text;
      • (iii) Article has potential but must be completely revised; or
      • (iv) Article is not acceptable in its present form and is therefore rejected (for example: typically on the grounds of lack of novelty or insufficient critical analysis).
    In addition to recommending a category, the reviewers are required to provide a substantial report that evaluates the strengths, weaknesses and contributions of the manuscript, as well as recommend any pertinent changes to the manuscript’s editing, structure, theoretical scaffolding or critical analysis. Once at least two reports have been received, the Editor makes a decision on the manuscript. If the reviewers’ recommendations diverge, the Editor can arbitrate the recommendation or refer the manuscript to a third reviewer. The comments and recommendations of the referees are conveyed to authors, and they may re-submit manuscripts once changes have been effected.Authors are given 30 days to revise a manuscript needing minor revisions and 60 days to revise a manuscript needing major revisions. Once the revised manuscript is received, the Editor makes a decision on manuscripts categorised with minor changes. Manuscripts with major revisions are submitted to the reviewers for their recommendations before the Editor makes a final decision.
  • All authors are subject to the same rigorous review process.
  • Articles may only be submitted in English.
